Pressurized storage batteries for hydrogen stations (gas storage units)
A hydrogen station is a facility that supplies hydrogen to fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).
We manufacture and sell accumulators (gas accumulators) for hydrogen stations which are made of materials that are safe in the high pressure hydrogen environment.
Effect of material strength in hydrogen environment
- The figure on the right shows the change in notch strength when using notched Cr-Mo (SCM435) steel samples and other materials with different material strengths at different tempering temperatures.
- The notch tensile test is a test in which a notch is made in the center of the test piece to induce a stress concentration that can significantly reveal the embrittlement property of the material.
- As the tensile strength increases above 1000 N/mm2, the susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement increases significantly.
Durability of materials used in storage devices for hydrogen stations
- As shown in the table below, there is concern about the effects of hydrogen embrittlement when SCM435 steel is used for the battery material at the specified strength.
- It is recommended to use SCM435 steel with a controlled upper limit of 950 N/mm2 for tensile strength based on literature such as Hinotani et al.* to reduce susceptibility to embrittlement of the hydrogen atmosphere in the medium. high pressure hydrogen field.
