Azbil VRX10A Ultrasonic Vortex Flowmeter

Manufacturer: Azbil Corporation
Model: VRX10A

Feature

Unlike piezoelectric vortex flowmeters, ultrasonic vortex flowmeters detect vortices by two ultrasonic beams and low flow rate can be measured.
Detects vortices with ultrasonic waves and can measure low flow rate
Rangeability is 80:1
Two pairs of ultrasonic sensors installed on the exterior of the detector can be replaced when they fail without removing the flowmeter from the piping.
Because two beams are used, if one pair fails, flow measurement can be continued with the other pair

Summary

This flowmeter detects vortex generation by tracking phase differences in ultrasonic waves. Specifically, two pairs of external sensors monitor the signal accurately. This design ensures high precision for liquid flow measurement applications. Furthermore, the device offers exceptional sensitivity and reliability. Consequently, this model now replaces conventional differential pressure flowmeters in many industries. High performance and easy maintenance make it a preferred choice for modern engineers.

Ultrasonic wave sensing

The internal generator creates a Karman vortex within the fluid stream. Specifically, the vortex frequency stays proportional to the flow velocity. The device then measures this velocity using ultrasonic phase differences. Furthermore, this method offers higher sensitivity than traditional piezo sensors. Consequently, piping vibrations do not affect the measurement results. Therefore, this flowmeter ensures high reliability in various industrial conditions.

Dual sensors
The ultrasonic propagation velocity changes depending on the temperature, so the temperature characteristics will be poor if only one pair of sensors is used for measurement. This product is designed to use two pairs of sensors to counteract this effect. Cross-sensing technology has greatly improved reliability.
Vortex detection at high sensitivity
The use of dual sensors also improves vortex detection sensitivity. Since Karman vortices weaken in the low flow rate range, conventional vortex flowmeters can measure flow rates down to 0.3 m/s, but the Ultrasonic Vortex Flowmeter can measure flow rates down to 0.1 m/s.
