Application

What is secondary vulcanization of rubber?

Manufacturers vulcanize and heat-treat silicone rubber in furnaces to crosslink polymers and stabilize the final product’s properties. During secondary vulcanization, silicone rubber releases volatile polymers as hot gases. Cooling temperatures or furnace shutdowns condense these gases into sticky liquid or solid deposits.”This sticky residue traps dust, builds up over time, and eventually clogs the piping system.

These flammable polymer deposits can ignite and cause fires if they touch heating equipment like heaters.
The volatile components from silicone rubber are called siloxanes, but siloxane is a general term for chemical substances that have siloxane bonds (Si-O-Si), and does not refer to a specific substance. Siloxanes exist in various forms, such as oil, rubber, and powder.

Hakko Electric utilizes in-house designed secondary vulcanization furnaces to manufacture “silicone rubber heaters,” leveraging their expertise in drying and heating equipment. In an early furnace model, accumulated siloxane inside the hot air generator blocked heat from reaching the temperature sensor, causing a heater malfunction and a small fire. Consequently, the company continuously improved the design to prevent piping and heater box clogging while ensuring smooth siloxane discharge, creating an accident-free, easy-to-maintain silicone rubber secondary vulcanizing furnace that they now proudly release to the market.

The system is designed for easy access, allowing for simple cleaning and replacement of pipes and heat sources.
Because the hot air circulation path is short and the piping is located as close to the high-temperature room as possible, the structure is less prone to condensation and clogging in the pipes.
Since the heater unit is located outside the cabin, it can be replaced entirely in an emergency.

IoT-based driving

It comes standard with communication capabilities and can connect to a PC via LAN. Wireless connectivity is also available.
Dedicated software allows you to change settings and check the current temperature remotely.
Because it has a function to log temperature and operating rate (record data), it contributes to the traceability and quality control of rubber products.
