Flow Meters for Liquid
Ultrasound is elastic waves (sound waves) with high frequencies that humans cannot hear, and needs gaseous or liquid media for its transmission. As compared with radio waves (electromagnetic waves), which use the same media, ultrasound travels at a lower speed and has a smaller wavelength. Because of these characteristics, ultrasound is appropriate for flow meters that do not need to send signals for a long distance as communication devices do.
