Features

Achieves a 5 m Protection Zone and a 20 m Warning Zone

By horizontally scanning the laser beam in two dimensions, the protection zone can be freely configured up to 5 m and the warning zone up to 20 m according to the application.

Distance Data Output

Outputs 270° distance data measured by the sensor and I/O status via an Ethernet cable.

  • The communication protocol supports SCIP2.2 distance measurement commands.
  • In addition, the new protocol incorporates I/O status and CRC.

When used with an AGV, surrounding contour data can support autonomous travel.

Configuration Saving Function to SD Card (Industry First)

Configuration is possible without connecting a PC by inserting a MicroSD card containing configuration data into the sensor’s MicroSD card slot.

When replacing sensors or applying the same area settings to multiple units, users can eliminate the need to connect a PC.

Master / Slave (Industry First)

When sensors operate in four directions, such as on an AGV, users can interconnect four sensors. One sensor acts as the master, while the remaining sensors act as slaves for simultaneous monitoring.
HOKUYO describes this arrangement as supporting up to four interconnected units, with control through the master unit.

The system can operate using only the master’s I/O.
Therefore, no separate control unit is required.

Encoder Input

By inputting signals from an incremental encoder mounted on the AGV wheels, the sensor can switch detection areas according to vehicle speed.

The detection area switches automatically according to the AGV speed.

Dual Protection

A single sensor can independently protect two machines.
When the sensor detects an object in Protection Zone 1, it switches OSSD1/2 OFF.
When the sensor detects an object in Protection Zone 2, it switches OSSD3/4 OFF.

The system reduces the number of units required and makes installation easier.

Freely Configurable Detection Areas (Protection Zone: 5 m, Warning Zone: 20 m)
Easy and Flexible Configuration of Protection and Warning Zones

The simple, easy-to-read setup screen allows even first-time users to configure the sensor easily. Users can set detection areas while monitoring the detection status in real time. In addition, three drawing methods are available depending on the application. Offline configuration is also easy.

Before Configuration

After Configuration

Easy Configuration of Complex Muting Areas
Muting Function

The muting input can disable part of the protection zone around workpiece exits and complex openings. As a result, the system supports area configurations that conventional light curtains cannot provide.

Up to 32 Patterns with 1 Protection Zone and 2 Warning Zones Can Be Registered

The system can register up to 32 patterns, each with one protection zone and two warning zones (non-safety), making it ideal for AGV applications. Moreover, users can switch patterns according to travel conditions, such as the surrounding route and turning movements.

Example of AGV Travel Using Pattern Switching

Detects Positional Changes from Reference Points
Reference Function

When the protection zone includes a movable part such as a door, users can register its position while the door is closed. Therefore, any change in the door position causes the OSSD to turn OFF.
When setting only part of the reference zone, configure at least two points along each relevant side of the reference background to ensure reliable displacement detection.
The reference monitor function detects misalignment and monitors changes in the background. In addition, it helps maintain safety by detecting gaps caused by installation misalignment.

Replaceable Optical Window

When the optical window becomes scratched or damaged, users can replace it. Please order a replacement “Optical Window” from the dealer where the product was purchased or from the nearest HOKUYO office.

Application Examples

Collision Prevention

The system can switch among 32 area patterns according to the AGV travel route. Therefore, it provides effective collision prevention.

Presence Detection

The system detects people who are present or remain inside hazardous areas.

Intrusion Detection

The system detects intrusion into hazardous areas. Furthermore, the reference function detects gaps in the protection zone caused by sensor misalignment.
