Application

Halon 1301 is a highly volatile, evaporative liquid, a type of halogenated compound. When sprayed onto burning flammable material, it quickly vaporizes into a non-flammable vapor five times heavier than air. The synergistic effect of the nitrogen effect from blocking the combustion surface and the chemical negative catalytic effect (inhibitory effect) from interrupting the combustion chain reaction allows for extremely rapid extinguishing. However, because halons are a type of chlorofluorocarbon gas that depletes the ozone layer, their production has now been discontinued.
