The head undergoes heat treatment including hardening (increases strength and wear resistance) and tempering (increases elasticity). The blade tip uses a composite material for better soil penetration. The head and handle are attached with bolts and nuts.  The edge of the head is curved to make it easier to scoop soil and prevent spillage.There are three holes on each side of the head for drainage.
