Powerful welding integrated with welding fume suction
Health protection and occupational safety for welders are nowadays as important as precise welding results with extremely consistent quality. In addition to muscle strain, the risk of harmful welding fumes must be taken into account. Every company that employs semi-automatic welders must provide them with tools that fit comfortably in the hand, reduce strain on the musculoskeletal system as much as possible, and reliably collect harmful welding fumes generated during MIG and MAG welding. The air- and water-cooled fume extraction torches from Avi Karbinzel are further technical improvements on the well-known RAB-GRIP and RAB-GRIP HE 2. This new generation of torches meets the health and safety requirements of modern workplaces more clearly and reliably.
The powerful xFUME ® PRO fume suction torches from Avi Karbinzel are ideal for use in demanding production environments where a reliable welding torch is required for powerful welding at high welding currents. These fume suction torches have been specially developed for local fume suction and mobile welding fume suction, but they also set new standards in terms of ergonomics, efficiency and weight. In short, they allow you to weld hygienically just as if you were holding a standard MIG or MAG semi-automatic welding torch.
Welding fume suction regulations
In 2018, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified welding fumes as a carcinogen. Unfortunately, welding fume inhalation in MIG and MAG weldinghas often been excluded from this classification. Now, it is the responsibility of manufacturing companies to provide welders with a hygienic working environment. The importance of health and safety in the workplace has gained new meaning in the context of more stringent regulations on welding fume inhalation. This has forced companies to reconsider and redesign their existing welding working environments.
Centralized or stationary suction systems have been installed in many manufacturing sites. These products, so- called low vacuum suction systems , are installed on the ceiling of the manufacturing site to suction the air in the entire room or above individual welding stations to suction the fumes that are a risk there. In this system, the suction hood or suction port sucks in the surrounding air with a high suction flow rate and low negative pressure, which means that the static pressure and suction flow capacity is lower than that of the so-called high vacuum systems that can suction welding fumes directly from their source. To achieve the highest efficiency and to capture almost all welding fumes, it is essential to suction the fumes from the source. This system can be used in conjunction with mobile welding fume suction equipment to upgrade existing stationary systems such as room suction systems or workplace ventilation.
Why is welding fume suction required at the source?
Welding fumes are sucked directly from their source through the front end of the fume suction torch and then collected by a mobile suction device, which removes harmful particles and returns clean air to the room. Fume suction from the source is the most efficient technology to collect welding fumes. This technology, so-called high vacuum system, is equipped with a filter that can remove up to 99.5% of dust particles larger than 0.1 μm contained in welding fumes.
High vacuum systems have both high negative pressure and low flow rate, but compared to low vacuum systems, their static pressure and suction flow rate are higher. When considering suctioning fumes from a fume source, there is often concern that a large amount of shielding gas will be sucked in. However, by combining an appropriate mobile fume suction device with a good quality fume suction torch, it is possible to ensure sufficient shielding gas at all times.
Features of the xFUME ® PRO fume suction torch lineup
Compared to the majority of fume suction torches on the market, the xFUME ® PRO fume suction torch lineup is extremely light and easy to use. When you hold these fume suction torches, you will feel as if you are holding a standard MIG torch or a standard MAG torch. Normally, welding fume suction torches are not very popular among welding workers because they are perceived as being rather heavy and difficult to use, and this is completely understandable. On the other hand, the xFUME ® PRO fume suction torch lineup made by Avi Karbinzel is not only extremely easy to use, but all torches have a relatively slim front end, which ensures good visibility during welding.
Overview of the fume suction torch xFUME ® PRO
Highly efficient welding fume suction
Improved ergonomics and significant weight savings
Slim front end
Optimized shielding gas properties
Ergonomic design for a comfortable use
Perfect weight balance between the torch neck and the cable
By the way, when welding in combination with a fume suction torch xFUME ® PRO and a mobile fume suction device from Avi Karbinzel, such as xFUME ® ADVANCED , FEC W3 or FES-200 W3 , the risk of unintentionally aspirating shielding gas can be avoided. Correct adjustment of the fume suction torch xFUME ® PRO and the welding fume suction device ensures optimal shielding gas performance at all times.
Functionality of the fume suction torch xFUME ® PRO
The AviCarbinzel fume suction torch xFUME® PRO is part of a high vacuum suction system, which combines high negative pressure with low flow rate, but has a higher static pressure and suction flow rate compared to low vacuum suction systems. Welding fumes generated during the manufacturing process are collected and transported to a mobile suction device via a suction hose. A filter on the suction device collects dust particles, traps them, and returns clean air to the room. Depending on the position of the torch, 90% to 99% of harmful particles are absorbed and removed by a fume suction device such as the fume suction torch xFUME® PRO. However, there is often a concern about suctioning fumes from the fume source, as it may result in a large amount of shielding gas being sucked in. To allow more precise adjustment of the fume suction rate, the fume suction torch xFUME® PRO is equipped with an easy-to-operate slider-type suction flow adjustment mechanism. By combining this with an appropriate mobile fume suction device , it is possible to ensure sufficient shielding gas performance at all times.Technical data

High efficiency due to the combination of fume suction torch and fume suction device
irect collection of welding fumes from the fume source is the most efficient technology for suctioning welding fumes and the best way to protect the health of welding workers. By combining AviCarbinzel’s fume suction devices such as xFUME ® ADVANCED , FES-200 W3 and FEC W3 with the fume suction torch xFUME ® PRO, welding fumes can be collected without any adverse effects on the shielding gas properties. By combining these high vacuum suction systems as a “team”, they make an important contribution to the safety and health aspects of any welding work site.
