A strainer is a critical protective device installed upstream in piping systems to remove iron filings, rust, debris, and other foreign substances. It protects downstream components such as control valves and traps.
The Y-type strainer is compact, cost-effective, and highly efficient, and is mainly used with self-operated control valves, pressure reducing valves, and traps.

Conditions for Selection

Select a strainer with the same nominal diameter as the piping.
For steam Y-type strainers, the standard screen is a perforated plate, but using an inner mesh is also acceptable.
If regular cleaning is required due to heavy debris, use a U-type strainer (see page 235), which allows debris removal from the top.
