Overview of Shielded Twisted Pair Cables
HIGH DATA RATE SIGNALS
Improvements in aerospace technology and passenger expectations for constant connection and access to IFE are driving the demand to update commercial aircraft with higher data rate cables. These cables must be smaller and lighter to reduce weight but also more robust to handle rigorous routing in less space and harsh flight conditions.
GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables utilize low-voltage differential signals (LVDS) with controlled impedance for data transmission lines at speeds up to 1 GHz. No matter the conditions inside or outside the aircraft, our cables ensure reliable performance for a successful flight every time. That’s because the combination of durable materials in their construction enables a higher tolerance against the harshest environments, like rapid changes in temperatures encountered during take-off and landing.
SAVE WEIGHT WITH GORE CABLE TECHNOLOGY
Our shielded twisted pair cables work well in aerospace harness applications because of their high flexibility and easy routability in hard-to-reach places of airframes. The low-dielectric cable configuration is 30% smaller, which reduces overall weight by as much as 50% when compared to standard oval configurations. If you compare our design side by side with alternative round designs, you’ll see that our cable is drastically smaller.
Applications
Methodically tested and qualified to stringent industry standards, GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables perform reliably in a number of civil aircraft applications, like:
- avionics digital networks
- cabin management systems
- Ethernet backbone
- HD streaming camera/video systems
- high-density connectors
- LVDS devices
- sensor/processor interconnects
- serial buses
Our cables can also be terminated with a variety of leading high-speed aerospace connector systems and backshells, like ARINC and MIL-STD-38999 with differential Twinax sizes 8 and 22D contacts.
Features & Benefits
Unlike standard oval or alternative round versions, GORE Shielded Twisted Pair Cables are engineered with unique features that make them more durable against harsh maintenance and flight conditions, including:
- chemically inert, polyimide-free materials
- abrasion- and temperature-resistant materials
- low-profile cable configuration
Our durable cables offer system architects and engineers numerous benefits that ensure lifelong performance in civil aircraft, like:
- reliable LVDS technology with 100-ohm controlled impedance
- excellent signal integrity for high data rate transmission up to 1 GHz
- 30% smaller and 50% lighter than standard oval cables
- higher tolerance against extreme temperatures, cut-through, vibration, more
- improved installation from higher flexibility and tighter bend radius
- compatible with a variety of leading connector systems and backshells
