Cleaning cargo holds generates bilge and wash water, collecting at the bottom of cargo ships as hold bilge. To discharge this water overboard, a bilge well at the rear of each cargo hold collects it. From there, a pump or eductor removes the water. This valve, attached to the suction port of the discharge pipe, acts as a check valve (foot valve) to ensure smooth discharge.
