What is Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT)?

Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT) is one of the phytosanitary treatment methods required for the conditional importation of overseas fresh produce. This method is primarily used when exporting fresh fruits such as mangoes, papayas, and dragon fruits from Southeast Asia to Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the EU.

The Vapor Heat Treatment System (VHT) is a device that uses steam and heat to eliminate the eggs and larvae of fruit flies, which parasitize fresh produce and cause significant damage in the importing countries. This is achieved without the use of any chemicals, maintaining the quality of the fresh produce while providing pest control and disinfection.

The VHT system by Sanshu Industries is known as the “Differential Pressure Treatment System.” This system utilizes differential pressure to ensure that the vapor heat passes uniformly through all gaps between the loaded fruits, allowing heat to circulate efficiently and evenly.

Currently, most of the vapor heat-treated fresh produce imported into Japan undergoes quarantine using this differential pressure treatment system.

Commercial Vapor Heat Treatment Equipment

For large-scale disinfection of fresh produce with conditional import approval

This equipment is designed to control and eliminate fruit flies, which lay eggs on fresh produce and cause significant damage at the destination, using highly precise vapor heat for insecticidal disinfection.
The current commercial modular vapor heat treatment equipment can be designed to handle capacities ranging from 500 kg (1 unit) to 5 tons (10 units) per cycle, tailored to the type of fresh produce being processed and the installation site.
Including older models, Sanshu’s vapor heat treatment equipment is active in over 10 countries worldwide.

Vapor Heat Treatment Test Equipment

For insecticidal and damage testing on fresh produce

This equipment has been introduced to domestic and international plant quarantine offices to conduct tests such as damage testing, insecticidal testing, and disinfection testing on fruits.
Using the differential pressure system, it can precisely create various environmental conditions of temperature and humidity according to the purpose of the tests.
It can control and maintain the desired environmental conditions and, if necessary, record temperature and humidity data.

Constant Temperature Vapor Treatment machine(CTVT)

Constant temperature steam treatment is a device that envelops fruits and vegetables with steam at a constant temperature to control and eliminate pests and diseases on their surfaces.

Since only the surface of the produce is treated, the quality of the fruits and vegetables is preserved.

For example, in mangoes, it can suppress the occurrence of anthracnose-like black spots during distribution.
For persimmons, it is effective in exterminating scale insects that attach to the calyx.
