During a voyage, the hull itself and the propeller shaft corrode due to potential differences in various parts of the hull. ICCP prevents electrical corrosion caused by potential differences in various parts of the hull by passing current through an anode attached to the outside of the hull. In addition, the propeller shaft earthing device prevents this phenomenon called spark erosion by earthing the propeller shaft to the hull.
