Ships must carry at least one sextant as part of their navigational equipment. Navigators must use the sextant proficiently and demonstrate daily astronomical observations, meridian transits, and solar position measurements whenever possible. They must record these observations on board in the appropriate format.
The ScanFinder-B is the world’s first electronic sextant certified by CE and FCC. The system successfully combines with the mechanical part of a conventional sextant, allowing navigators to quickly fix the ship’s position in case of GPS failure or interference.
