A ferrule (ceramic welding auxiliary material) is required for stud welding.
The ferrule blocks the air during arc generation, prevents reaction between the weld metal and air, and slows down the arc heat cooling speed.
It also acts as a collar mold around the stud that traps the weld metal inside the ferrule.
There are various sizes of headed studs, odd-shaped studs, and threaded studs, and various types suitable for welding positions.
