EXTREMA is a high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) that brings together the best of JASCO’s technology. You can build the optimal system for your purpose from a variety of units, including UHPLC, RHPLC (Rapid Separation HPLC), semi-preparative pumps, and high-sensitivity detectors. The chromatography data system, ChromNAV, renowned for its operability and processing functions, now offers enhanced functionality and user-friendliness with its upgrade to Ver. 2.0. This version includes various improvements, making it more efficient and intuitive for users.
System lineup
There are three types in the lineup: HPLC/RHPLC, UHPLC, and Prep-HPLC. Many units are available, and you can build the optimal system by combining units suited to your purpose.
UHPLC
Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) uses columns packed with ultrafine particles of 2µm or less, enabling separation at high pressure (up to 130 MPa). This method allows for high-speed separation while maintaining high separation efficiency. Compared to conventional HPLC, UHPLC significantly shortens analysis time, reducing it to just 1/5 to 1/10 of the usual duration. Additionally, it minimizes the amount of mobile phase solvent used, cutting it down to nearly 1/10, thus enhancing both efficiency and sustainability.
HPLC/RHPLC
Rapid Separation HPLC (RHPLC) provides a high-speed analysis method that spans the range from conventional HPLC to some UHPLC applications. This analytical system utilizes fully porous packed columns with particle sizes of 2 to 3 µm and core-shell columns. Moreover, it supports measurements in the medium pressure range (30 to 70 MPa), positioning itself as the future standard analytical method.
Prep-HPLC
Preparative High Performance Liquid Chromatography (Prep-HPLC) focuses on isolating and purifying target compounds with high purity from synthetic products and natural substances. EXTREMA, equipped with a semi-preparative pump, enables its use as a semi-preparative high performance liquid chromatograph (Prep-HPLC). Additionally, it facilitates micro- and ultra-micro-preparative separations when integrated with an RHPLC or UHPLC system.

Hardware
UV-4070/4075 UV-Visible Absorbance Detector
The UV-Vis absorbance detector is equipped with a Czerny-Turner monochromator with excellent optical characteristics. By improving stability through measures such as reducing drift caused by temperature control of the cell body, a noise level of ±0.2×10 −5 AU has been achieved.
The UV-4070 can measure from 190 to 900 nm, and the UV-4075 can measure from 190 to 600 nm.
The UV-4070/4075 supports simultaneous two-wavelength detection and spectrum auto-scan.
Fluorescence detector FP-4020/4025
The fluorescence detector has been designed to be highly sensitive, with the FP-4020 achieving the world’s highest level of S/N of over 2300 (Raman scattering of water), and the FP-4025 achieving S/N of over 1400. It supports simultaneous detection of two wavelengths, changing of excitation and fluorescence wavelengths for each peak by time program, and spectrum autoscan. It supports high-speed data acquisition and can be used as a detector for UHPLC and RHPLC.
Refractive index detector RI-4030 / 4035
The optical system is housed in a precisely temperature-controlled block to shut out disturbances caused by external temperature.
By rearranging the piping, the RI-4030 can be used in two different modes: analytical mode and preparative mode. In preparative mode, it supports high flow rates of up to 120 mL/min.
The RI-4035 is equipped with a semi-micro cell that supports semi-micro analysis, and can be used for semi-micro GPC analysis using fine particle GPC columns. It also supports high speed data acquisition.
Circular dichroism detector CD-4095
The CD-4095 is a unique detector developed by JASCO, a leading manufacturer of circular dichroism spectrometers. It can detect optically active substances with circular dichroism with high sensitivity and selectivity. It supports spectrum autoscan and can measure the CD spectrum of eluted substances.
Optical rotation detector OR-4090
The optical rotation detector measures the tilt of the polarization plane caused by optical isomers, so it can measure samples that do not absorb light in the UV-visible region. It covers a wide range from 350 to 900 nm, so it can be used with a variety of samples.
